About Scholarship

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) is a parastatal of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources established by Decree 25 of 1973 for the purpose of developing and promoting petroleum technology and for creating the manpower needs of the oil and gas industry through research and training of Nigerians.

Its mission therefore is to train Nigerians to qualify as graduates, professionals, technicians and craftsmen in the field of engineering, geology, science and management in the oil and gas industry in Nigeria or abroad.

To ensure a steadfast implementation of this mandate, PTDF is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for Overseas MSc and PhD Scholarships. Scholarships will be awarded for studies in the 2013/2014 academic session in the United Kingdom and France (Grenoble INP) and upgraded Universities in Nigeria for the 2013/2014 session. However, the Undergraduate level will be awarded for studies in Nigeria only on subject areas listed below.

Selection Criteria and Eligibility

A.    UNDER GRADUATE  (Nigeria Only)

1.      Possession of 5 credits in WAEC/SSCE/NECO including English Language and Mathematics

2.      Must have concluded the 1^st year of their study in any of the PTDF upgraded Federal Universities listed above.

3.      Must have scored a minimum CGPA of 3.0 on scale of 5 or 4.5 on a scale of 7 in their 1^st Year.

4.      Must scan and attach a copy of their admission letter

5.      Students admitted into the University through Direct Entry i.e. 200 level must have either of the following:

i.         Minimum of Upper Credit at the Diploma level

ii.         Minimum of 10 points in interim Joint Matriculation Board (I.J.M.B) examination.

iii.         Minimum of 8 points at the Advanced Level General Certificate of Education (G.C.E).

B.     MSc (Overseas)

1.      A minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) in an Oil and Gas related field OR a 2.2 with oil and gas industry experience

2.      National Youth Service (NYSC) certificate

3.      Applicants must be computer literate

4.      Possession of O/level with Credit in English Language in WAEC/SSCE (C6) or NECO (C4);

5.      Applicants must not be above 30 years of age

Applicants without credit in English language as in (4) above but possess any of the following may apply

i.         Test of English  as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

ii.       G.R.E ( Graduate Record Examination)

iii.     GMAT –for Management related courses

iv.     International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

C.     PhD

I.               Applicants must be in the academics in Nigerian Institutions, teaching an oil and gas related discipline;

II.               Applicants must possess minimum of 2.2 in their first degree and a good second degree certificate;

III.               Applicants must submit a research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry (of not more than 5 pages) to include: Topic, introduction, objective, methodology and mode of data collection;

IV.               Applicants must include a valid admission letter;

V.               Applicants must not be over 40 years of age; and;

VI.               Applicants must include their masters degree project

Applicants may please note that only those who meet the requirements stated shall be shortlisted and invited for Electronic Aptitude Test, in the case of Master’s, while oral interview will be conducted for PhD (full time) on dates to be announced later. Following the aptitude tests and interview, the best qualified candidates will be selected and awarded the PTDF Scholarship.

PTDF however wishes to inform applicants that the Overseas Scholarship Scheme was instituted as a short term measure to address identified skills gaps, pending the outcome of the various capacity building efforts being made to enable our domestic universities effectively handle the onerous task of grooming qualitative professionals in the oil and gas related disciplines. Nigeria Merit Postgraduate Scholarships 2013 (£7,000)

The University of Sheffield  in UK  is offering a number of scholarships to   Nigerian  students with  high academic standing starting in September 2013 .

There will be four Merit Postgraduate scholarship grants worth £7,000  per year to be awarded starting from the  2013 session.

This will take the form of a tuition fee reduction.
Eligibility:

Each scholarship is worth £7,000 of your postgraduate taught masters degree tuition fee per year, for one year of study. The scholarships will take the form of a tuition fee reduction.

To be eligible for the Nigeria Merit Postgraduate Scholarships 2013 (£7,000), applicants must be a Nigerian national or permanently domiciled in Nigeria, apply for a study place by Friday 21 June 2013 and hold an offer of a study place for entry in September 2013. The deadline for applications is Friday 28 June 2013 and results will be announced by Friday 26 July 2013. The Nigeria Merit Postgraduate Scholarships 2013 (£7,000) are awarded on the basis of academic merit.

Students who hold an unconditional offer for one of our postgraduate degree programmes and who pay international tuition fees may apply for a scholarship. You can't apply for a scholarship unless you have applied for a course and been given an unconditional offer to study at London Met (current continuing students are the only exception to this rule).  The scholarship programme provides full and partial tuition fee financial support  for students on taught Masters degree programmes. Applicants are judged on academic merit and on the likely economic/social benefit to their home country of them doing a Masters degree in the UK.  (This must be clearly demonstrated in the personal statement that the above criteria are met). Who is eligible to apply?

• Applicants who have accepted an offer of a place firmly by 31 July and met the academic conditions of entry will be considered for these scholarships. By what Criteria is Selection Made?

Eligible candidates are selected for a scholarship on the basis of the following criteria:

1. Their academic excellence and promise in the proposed field of study;
2. The academic quality and results of the preceding education, as evidenced, for example, by grades, test scores, publications, letters of recommendation;
3. The quality and relevance of the motivation letter (academic content, intercultural and communication skills, personal motivation);
4. The quality and feasibility of the financial plan in the application;
5. The quality of the application itself (completeness, accuracy, consistency).

Who is eligible to apply?

Highly talented prospective students from non-EU/EEA countries

The applicant must meet the eligibility criteria in order to be considered for this scholarship. The applicant should:

1. Not have the Dutch or an EU/EEA nationality;
2. Hold a non-Dutch secondary school diploma;
3. Have been admitted to an International Master’s programme within one of the Graduate Schools mentioned above, the Bachelor’s programme in Economics and Business Economics or to University College Utrecht;
4. Hold a relevant Bachelor’s degree (for a Master’s programme) or secondary school diploma (for a Bachelor’s programme), or an equivalent thereof;
5. Be able to comply with the conditions to obtain a Dutch visa;

Failure to meet one or more of these criteria automatically means the student is not eligible for this scholarship.

What are the benefits?

Max. 28 350 euro per year

Students should be aware that the grant is not necessarily a full scholarship, and that it may be necessary to find additional funding to be able to finance study and stay completely.

How long will sponsorship last? Selected students receive a scholarship for the duration of the degree programme, which is a maximum of two years for a Master’s degree and three years for a Bachelor’s degree.

The scholarship will only be renewed for the second (and third) year if the student is making satisfactory progress towards the degree.

It is not possible to apply for the Utrecht Excellence Scholarship. The selection committee of the programme will select eligible candidates on the basis of the selection criteria mentioned above. The selected candidates will be offered an Utrecht Excellence Scholarship at the latest in May.
